Foreign residents are able to join the National Pension system. However, this does not apply to residents who are here for short term or to those who have illegally overstayed. As of February 2009, the monthly insurance premium will be 14.410 yen (this applies to all residents). To join the National Pension system, please refer to your local ward office.
